We Salute Veterans Day to David Grace – “Retired Veteran Now A Rising Star In The College Coaching Ranks”

Today UCLA Assistant Coach David Grace will be celebrating Veterans day by getting for his Bruins season opener as they play Paciffic. Grace spend 20 years in the Air Force in which he served our country; currently is currently serving as an Assistant Coach for one of the most historical basketball programs of all time. A native of Aberdeen, Maryland and a graduate from Park University, David Grace is one of the top assistant coaches in college basketball.

In the Air Force Grace became a fuel specialist and accountant, that based in Turkey, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Virginia, and finally Arizona. He became part of the Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and he was stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia. He started coaching tenure with the Boo Williams AAU program in Hampton, Virginia. Then he re-located to Luke AFB in Arizona and began coaching AAU teams with the Compton Magic and Arizona Magic AAU program in the Phoenix area in which he coached Jerryd Bayless of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Grace became the head coach for the freshman team and assistant for the varsity at Trevor Browne in West Phoenix for five years. Then in 2004 Grace became the varsity head coach at South Mountain high in which he took over a 4-17 program; then in 2006, South Mountain captured the state title. In the late summer of 2006 David Grace dreams came true when true where he landed his first college coaching job as an assistant at Sacramento State and an assistant. Then in 2007 he move on in the same position at the University of San Francisco in which he spend one season for the Dons.

Grace return back to Phoenix, Arizona for brief period of time and in 2009 Oregon State hired Grace as an assistant coach. Grace coached under Craig Robinson who is the older brother of U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama. Yes Grace made a few visits to the White House as well! However, he became one of the top recruiters in the Pac 12 and landed Jared Cunningham, Eric Moreland, and Roberto Nelson from California. Grace spend four season as the Beavers main assistant.

In 2013; Steve Alford came calling on David Grace and accepted the assistant coaching position at UCLA. During his four year stint, Grace has highly recruited five star athletes and the program has been one of the top recruiting classes for the past few years. Grace has landed top players such as Zach Lavine, Kevon Looney, Kyle Anderson, Norman Powell, Jordan Adams, and this years incoming freshmen Lonzo Ball, T. J. Leaf, Kobe Paras, and Ike Anigbogu.

David Grace has exceeded expectations for the past several years and tireless efforts can lead him into a head coaching job someday. Right now Grace is living the dream and it cant get no better than UCLA. We have celebrate this Veterans day honoring coach Grace and his commitment as a retired veteran and to coaching.
