The San Antonio Spurs is an organization that I am completely fascinated with. I believe many organizations both within and also outside the NBA can learn important life and business lessons from this franchise. The Spurs have won a total of 5 titles in the team’s history, and up until this month, 3 of the team’s starting 5 had spent their entire career in San Antonio—Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili & Tony Parker.

With the NBA Finals fast coming to a conclusion the 4 month break between seasons will leave basketball fans anxious to the next season wondering several things. Where will Kevin Durant be playing next season? Will Cleveland trade Kevin Love? What up and coming young teams will make the leap into contention? The good news this summer is in addition to the NBA offseason, we have the 2016 Olympic Summer Games to look forward to. Team USA will once again be the favorites to win but this year more than any leaves much competition and a 1st place finish will be as difficult as it has been since NBA players began participating in 1992. Who are the United States’ most fierce competition? Let’s look at who I believe to be the 5 biggest threats to defeating the United States as well as a couple of teams who just missed the cut.

In the eight game ones of the NBA Playoffs this weekend basketball fans got both the expected and unexpected. Five out of eight games resulted in blowout wins which didn’t come as a surprise to many. Some teams showed more of the same woes and other teams impressed. But this is only game one and the butterflies should be gone away now. To put it simply: I Doubt it. Golden State just looks head and shoulders better than any other team in the NBA. The Warriors greatness has overshadowed great seasons from the likes of San Antonio, Cleveland, and Oklahoma City. These star studded teams will definitely give the Warriors a run for their money, and that’s why they play the games. You never know what’s going to happen next, that’s the beauty of sports. Let’s look at the top contenders that could possibly stand in the way of Golden State’s dream to repeat.
