There is less than a month left in the NBA regular season and things are heating up. The Cavs have been struggling with injuries and poor defense. However, they just clinched a playoff spot, and the recent struggles of the Celtics and Wizards have allowed the Cavs to keep some distance. In the west Steph Curry has found his stroke again and the Warriors are starting to play better after a rough stretch. Also Damian Lillard has gone ballistic and is keeping Portland in the playoff race. This is a very tight playoff race and seeds won’t be decided until the last day. Here are the top seven players of the week!

Tharon and Xavier Rathan Mayes

By Regina Robinson

Hooping Like Their Daddies
It turned out to be a good thing that Xavier Rathan-Mayes returned to Florida State this season after withdrawing his name from the early-entry list for the NBA Draft in May. In a win against Wake Forest on Dec. 28, the junior guard became the 46th FSU player to reach 1,000 career points. Doesn’t sound like too much of big deal, right? His father, Tharon Mayes is 20th in all-time scoring at FSU with 1,260 career points (Tharon played for FSU from 1986-1990 with two NCAA Tournament appearances). That’s cool too, but still, is that really worth a mention? Well, yes, because it’s a first for the ACC.
