The Environment Of Ewing’s Hiring As Georgetown Head Coach

Basketball hall of famer and New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing, will return to his grassroots later this year, as he was named the new head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas last week on April 3. Ewing, the first Hoya to be selected first overall in an NBA draft back in 1985, played for Georgetown from 1981-85 and led them to three NCAA Championship games in his four years of eligibility.

Kevin Wayne Durant has made the decision to pack his bags in Oklahoma to head west and pan for gold with the Warriors. Just as many did in 1849, he’s hopping on the bandwagon to go to Northern California in hopes of striking it rich and winning an NBA championship. He leaves behind the franchise that drafted him and the only team he’s played for in the first nine years of his career. Now, after taking some time to evaluate his options, he begins the “Next Chapter” of his time in the NBA with a new team but a not-so-fresh start.

Going into the college basketball season, Villanova was the top team in the Big East and the favorite to win the conference. They won the regular season title but lost to Seton Hall in the Big East Tournament Final. We all know what happened after that. Villanova was the class of the Big East (and all of college basketball) this season, while other teams like Xavier, Providence, Seton Hall, and Butler finished behind them. However, there is one glaring omission – Georgetown; the team picked by many to finish second.
