The Downfall of New York Basketball!

New York City is known as the mecca of basketball. The birth of basketball was here. Madison Square Garden is known as the most famous basketball arena in the world. The Nets in New Jersey were a proud franchise that went to back-to-back finals in the early 2000’s. In Brooklyn the team got off to early success with two straight playoff appearances, but since then have been one of the worst teams. The Knicks haven’t made the playoffs in four years. The Nets are worst team in the league, and haven’t made the playoffs in two years. How did this happen? New York is supposed to represent success and wins. Both teams now are amongst the worst in the league. So how did they fall so hard, and how do they get back up to the top?

1. Missing New York Knicks Star – Knicks point guard Derrick Rose went missing earlier last week without giving the Knicks any notice. The team had no idea where he was according to team officials he later reached out and said he had a family situation and returned to his hometown Chicago.  This comes on the surface of Rose, already losing minutes to backup guards leading to some league officials speculating the Knicks might trade the former MVP. Rose was not suspended for his actions, but reportedly fined $200,000.

New York fans refer to Kristaps Porzingis as a unicorn. Someone who barely follows the NBA might wonder why they are comparing a basketball player to a mythical creature. The truth is that the combination of size, talent, and potential is very rare. With help from Carmelo Anthony, newly acquired veterans Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, and other role players, this team has a chance to make the playoffs.

The NBA season is very exciting and entertaining to watch, but the NBA off-season might be just as exciting. Since LeBron James announced his decision to take his talents to South Beach in the summer of 2010, free agency has become a controversial and dramatic period for the NBA. DeAndre Jordan’s last minute decision to leave Dallas in 2015 and Kevin Durant’s decision to join the Warriors this past summer have added to the spectacle known as NBA free agency. 2017’s free agents are star-studded and headlined by a former MVP and the reigning MVP, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. Both of them have an important decision to make this summer based upon if Golden State wins the championship or not. Don’t forget about Blake Griffin and Chris Paul’s decision in L.A. Both of them have championship aspirations, but are the Clippers ready to win?
