To say that Team USA has not lived up to expectations this Olympic season is an understatement. In years past, USA has dominated every country in Men’s Basketball and when compared to the Dream Team, this year’s Olympic lineup is a far cry from what they used to be.

In the fifth and final preliminary game for the United States Men, they eeked out their third straight nail-biter by beating France by a mere 3 points. Going into the game, many were looking to see if the U.S. would bounce back after bad showings against Australia and Serbia in their previous two games. Unfortunately, for both the team and their fans, it was another disappointing display against a team sitting out their superstar, Tony Parker, point guard for the San Antonio Spurs. In a game separated mainly by a single scoring run, it was a hard-fought battle between both teams for the entire duration of the matchup.

After starting the Olympics with two dominant victories the United States Basketball team was given a reality check in their last match against Australia.  They won, but only after a back and forth physical battle that made Team USA realize that a gold medal will be no cakewalk.  They specifically struggled against Australia’s physicality and other teams in the tournament surely would use this game as a blueprint on how to play the Americans.  Tonight they faced another tough opponent in team Serbia.  With a mix of some current NBA talent, former NBA talent and European talent the Serbians have one of the stronger teams in the Olympics.

The hometown heroes eventually pulled off the W, but not without a fight from the boys down under.

Team USA officially began its quest for their third straight Olympic Gold Medal on Saturday with a dominating 119-62 victory over China. No one expected the game to even be close and it never was. The United States took care of business and handled the team from China just as they had in the two exhibition games played between the teams a few weeks back. This game was as non-eventful as the other two with the U.S. being in control essentially from start to finish, leading for 37 minutes and 11 seconds of the possible 40.
